Signage systems are visual information systems. They could be in the form of maps, arrows, color codings systems, pictograms and different typographic elements.

Signage systems are used to guide people, for example road signs, tube station signs and overhead signs in an airport are all signage systems.

Following a signage system is known as wayfinding, waysigning or signposting.

Any collection of signs can be classed as signage system but the term is usually used to refer to a group of signs with a consistant design and purpose. A significant amount of effort is put into creating a sign that takes into account scientific knowledge about humans' reactive capabilities to fonts and colours. Thisis why certain fonts that are frequently used.
